Helen Stella Walter
Helen Stella Walter was born July 7, 1941 to Mary and Amedeo DiTommaso. She was carried softly to heaven with the beauty and grace by which she lived on June 10, 2015 surrounded by her family following a brief illness. Raised with her Italian heritage by her large family of 10 aunts and uncles in Waynesburg, Ohio. Helen was a devoted Catholic who attended St. James Catholic Church. She graduated from Sandy Valley High School in 1959 and met her husband, Gary, whom she married in 1962. Helen was proud of the 10 years she worked in the engineering department at the Timken Company until she left in 1967 to raise her family. The love with which she raised her family was seen in all she did at holidays and family gatherings, as homeroom mother, Girl Scout volunteer, and dance class and baseball mom. She was especially proud of the accomplishments of her children including teaching her son, Scotty, to read and write and was influential in organizing special education in the Canton Local Schools.
Helen had a beautiful, loving spirit and lived everyday with kindness, generosity, and gratitude toward everyone she met. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Walter in 2003, parents, Amedeo and Mary DiTommaso, and brother, William DiTommaso. Survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary (David) Kosita of Louisville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike (Nannette McLemore) of East Canton, Todd (Bobbi) of Canton, and Scott of Canton; two granddaughters, Celine and Samantha Kosita: and one grandson, Jacob Walter. She was cared for by her loving son, Todd, and her daughter-in-law, Bobbi, for over 10 years.
