Helen Pauline (Zurek) Tansek
age 92, of Canton, passed away peacefully in her home on January 11, 2010. She was born July 4, 1917 in Short Creek, OH to the late Andrew and Antoinette Zurek. Helen was a Canton area resident most of her life and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Canton. She was formerly employed part-time by McGill's Greenhouse for many years and was a member of the former Polish-American Citizens Club. Helen truly loved playing her harmonica, gardening and polka dances. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Paul P. Tansek in 2000 to whom she was married 64 years; two sisters, Josephine Rigas and Mary Slaga; three brothers, Walter, John and Bruno Zurek. She is survived by two daughters, Mildred Priebe of Fredericksburg, VA. and Helen Travers of Magnolia; three sons, Charles Tansek of Canton, Paul Tansek of Springhill, FL, George and Linda Tansek of Waynesburg; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph Zurek of Smithfield, OH. and Andrew Zurek of Dillonvale, OH; numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday January 15, 2010 at 10:00am in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Internment in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday 6-8pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lynn Reidl.
