Helen M. Lonce
A life resident of Canton, Helen was a 1944 graduate of Canton South High School and a 1947 graduate of the Aultman School of Nursing. Her nursing career spanded five decades to include Emergency Room, Pediatrics, and Occupational Health. She was employed by Aultman Hospital, Doctors Graham, Adler, Waterson Pediatrics, Timken Mercy Hospital, and the Medical Department of the Timken Company, Gambrinus Plant. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Canton and the Police and Fireman’s Retirees Association.
Helen was loved by all. She was generous, patient, kind, ornery, self-giving, stoic, strong willed and almost always told one when asked, “I’m OK.” She fought long and hard against the many obstacles of adverse medical conditions.
Volleyball then bowling were her favorite sports to play. Listening to music was a joy for her. Helen loved the Big Band sound, Sinatra, a certain accordion player, and attending DCI events. She enjoyed oil painting, classic movies, gardening, and roses. She found special pleasure feeding the birds that sheltered in her garden and visits from all those special dogs. One of her favorite things was to take road trips, a casino run, Vegas with Ida, and dining at a favorite restaurant. Her most appreciated contribution at a party was the famous fruit salad. Michigan State, The Cleveland Browns, and Green Bay Packers were her favorite football teams.
