Helen G. Henderson
Age 79, of Canton passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday, February 10, 2010. Born December 11, 1930 in Malvern, OH, daughter to the late Charles and Sophie (Fenko) Galay. She was a 1948 graduate of Malvern High School and a graduate of Kent State University. Helen taught in Canton Local School District and was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Canton for 55 years. She enjoyed working with children and served 25 years as a 4-H advisor. Helen was an avid participant at the Stark County Fair and won many ribbons for baking, sewing, quilting, needlework and antiquing. She was an avid reader and sports fan and particularly enjoyed the Cleveland Indians, Ohio State and local high school sports. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Henderson; sisters, Catherine Menapace and Sonia Tarr; brother, Myron Galay. Survived by her children and spouses, Carolee Henderson of Malvern, Eric Henderson of Canton, Douglas Henderson of Bolivar, Steven and Patti Henderson of Canal Fulton, Tim and Anita Henderson of Canton and Greg and Jenny Henderson of Canton; grandchildren, Mathew, Abigail and Nicholas Henderson of Bolivar, Samantha and Rebecca Henderson of Canal Fulton; sister and brother-in-law, Rosie and Vince Stafalino of Hudson, OH; sisters-in-law, Charlyn (Don) Kulla of Malvern, Virginia Henderson of Peoria, Illinois; brothers-in-law, Henry Robert Menapace of Stow and David (Patricia) Tarr of Mineral City; many beloved nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Feb. 15, 2010 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Canton at 10:00 am with Fr. Benson Okpara as celebrant. Interment in St. Francis Xavier Church Cemetery, Malvern, OH. Friends may call Sunday from 2-5 pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Galay Family Scholarship in Brown Local Schools, Malvern.
