Helen Catheryn Carpenter
Age 94, passed away peacefully Friday October 17, 2014. She was born January 24, 1920 in Midvale, OH to the late James and Sarah (Leggett) Meese. She was the beloved wife to the late Pastor Bud Carpenter with whom she celebrated 77 years of marriage on March 15, 2014. Helen took joy in writing her memories which she titled "Being a Preachers Wife." The book begins with "First of all I want to thank the Lord for through it all I have learned to trust in Jesus; without Him I could do nothing". Her and Bud would sit and share their delightful stories of being pastors for over 75 years. Together they founded Richville Gospel Tabernacle which is now Open Bible Christian Center. Helen was known for her beautiful quilts, she enjoyed reading, sewing and especially making her crafts. She and Bud enjoyed distributing their craft gifts at the area nursing homes. Helen is the mother of twin children, Jerry (Linda) Carpenter of Massillon and Judy Timms of Celina, TN; 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Pastor Arthur E. "Bud" Carpenter on June 8, 2014; one granddaughter; Son-in-law, Ben Timms; four sisters, Florence Johnson, Wilma Crawshaw, Bonnie Carlisle and Wanda Mottice. A memorial service will be Thursday October 30, 2014 at 11:00am in the Emmanuel Community Church at 7641 Navarre Rd SW with Pastors Mike Knibbs and Russ Rodojev Jr. officiating. A luncheon will be served following services and guests can greet the family. We would like to extend a sincere appreciation to the Country Club Retirement Campus for their excellent care, also a heartfelt thank you for the compassion of the Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia, OH.
