Harry R. Simmons
Harry R. Simmons, age 90, of East Canton, passed away Saturday evening in Aultman Hospital. He was born December 19, 1918 in Amsterdam, OH to the late James and Maude (Snively) Simmons. Harry was a WWII Army veteran and an East Canton resident most of his life. He retired from Glen-Gary Corp. in 1972 after 36 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant son, Roy Simmons; two brothers, Charles and James Simmons; four sisters, Mary Kohler, Evelyn Albaugh, Ila Vere Schweyer and Maxine Beckley. He is survived by his wife, Clara B. (Slates) to whom he was married 60 years; two sons, James (Donna) Simmons and Charles Simmons; three daughters, Nancy (William) Castro, Norma McCartney and Julie Simmons-Deremer; five grandchildren, Cori Deremer, Seth Ferguson, Jenna Ferguson, Brianna McCartney and Zachary McCartney. Funeral services will be Wednesday January 28, 2009 at 1:00pm in the Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton with Rev. Richard K. Thewlis officiating. Interment in Liberty Cemetery.
