Harriet E. Ream, age 96, of Canton, passed away Sunday December 28, 2008 at Altercare of Nobles Pond following an extended illness. She was born December 23, 1912 in Canton to the late Charles C. and Janet (Wilkinson) Ream. Harriet was a life resident of the Canton area, a1934 graduate of North Industry High School, received her degree in Education from Kent State University and a Masters Degree and Education Specialist from Columbia University in 1940. Harriet's field of expertise was health and physical education. Harriet was a Teacher at Canton Township High School, a Professor and Dean of Women at Mt. Union College and West Liberty State College. Member of Mt. Union Women, former president of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, West Virginia and a member of Christ United Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Women. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Jane Wacker, Doris Dutter and Elizabeth Schempf; one brother, David Ream; one nephew, Richard Ream. She is survived by one brother-in-law, Ken Schempf of Columbus; one sister-in-law, Mildred Ream of Canton; seven nieces and nephews, Patricia Rastetter, Ronald (Linda) Ream, Robert (Beth) Ream, Susan Worley, Howard (Linda) Wacker, KarLee Lombardo and George Schempf; several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Wednesday December 31, 2008 at 1:00pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home. Interment in Sandy Valley Cemetery. Friends may call two hours before services on Wednesday (11-1pm). In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church at 3500 Cleveland Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44709 or the charity of your choice.
