Gust C. Malavite Sr.
Age 86, of East Sparta, passed away Tuesday February 23, 2016 in Hennis Care Center, Bolivar. He was born April 12, 1929 to the late Harry and Georgia (Sardis) Malavite. Gust was a 1948 graduate of Canton South High School and a life resident of East Sparta. He was the owner/operator of Malavite Excavating, Inc. since 1953. He was happiest working on his Cricket Valley Farm where he started The Cricket Valley Rodeo for 16 years. Gust was a founder of the Tri-County Trail Association, a member of Caldwell Lodge #330 F&AM, Pike Grange #1669, Otterbein United Methodist Church, Gold Card member of the IPRA, and qualified for the International Professional Rodeo Association finals in the Team Roping event. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Mike, Tom, Harry and Nicholas Malavite; one sister, Helen Malavite; one grandson, Max McGuire. He is survived by his loving sweetheart, Carol Mason with whom he shared more than 44 years; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Kelly Malavite, Gust and Patsy Malavite Jr.; Kevin and Debbie Malavite; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; one sister, Judy and Robert Carrick; one brother, Zeb and Marguerite Malavite; numerous nieces and nephews. Gust’s family would like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to Hennis Care Center and Community Hospice for their compassionate and outstanding care. A service celebrating Gust’s life will be Saturday February 27, 2016 at 3:00pm in Otterbein United Methodist Church with Pastor Webb Parsons officiating. Friends will be received two hours before services on Saturday at the church (1-3pm).
