Gloria N. Clapper

Age 93, of East Canton died Sunday, September 20, 2015 in the Laurels of Canton following a brief illness. Born October 29, 1921 in Waynesburg, Ohio to the late William and Elizabeth (Smith) Spece. She was a life resident of the Waynesburg and East Canton areas. Gloria was a 1939 graduate of Waynesburg High School and a graduate of Canton Actual Business School. She had been employed by Dr. Davis for 20 years and had also been employed by the Aultman School of nursing. Gloria was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where she was active in Women’s Guild and Mary and Joseph Class. She was a charter member of the Osnaburg Historical Society, a volunteer with American Red Cross and Timken Mercy Hospital. Gloria was an avid reader and quilter; she donated many quilts to the Historical Society for fund raisers. Preceded in death by her husband, Lester J. Clapper in 2003; one brother, Lawrence Spece; three sisters, Mary Miller, Drusilla Shomer and Marjorie Sarai. She is survived by four sons, William Clapper of Fredericksburg, VA; Robert Clapper of East Canton, Thomas Clapper (Laura Davis) of Kent; Jeff Clapper of East Canton; 15 grandchildren, Meri (Dean) Payne, Suzy Clapper, Jim Clapper, Cheri Clapper, Marlena Clapper, Robby Clapper, Jessica (Jasin) Jones, Jeffrey Clapper (Kelly Dietrick) Jesse Clapper, Max (Devin) Clapper, Ana Clapper; 10 great grandchildren, Julian (Kinzie) Brooks, Jeff Payne, Jaylen Campbell, Lucy and Finley Clapper, Aria Clapper, Gianna and Maddix Clapper, Jayme Jones; two great-great grandchildren, Zayden and Alexandria Brooks. A public Celebration of life gathering will be Thursday, Sept 24, 2015 from 6-8 pm at Jeff Clapper, her son’s home, 544 E. Nassau St., East Canton, OH. 44730. A private family service will be conducted. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Osnaburg Historical society or the Foltz Community Center.
