Gerald S. Eakin

Gerald Samuel Eakin, age 78, went home to be with the Lord on October 2, 2023. He was born on May 19, 1945, in Canton, Ohio, to William & LaVonne (Hughes) Eakin.

Gerald was a 1963 graduate of East Canton High School where he played basketball. He retired from the Timken Company after 35 years of service.

He was an active member or Dueber Global Methodist Church where he was chair of the trustees, sang in the church choir, and competed in the church softball league.  Gerald also volunteered at Aultman Cardiovascular Consultants.

Those left to cherish his memory are wife, Kay (McAdams) Eakin married 50 years; daughter, Sherrie Shaffer; sons, Gerald (Andrea) Eakin II, Daniel (Mary) Eakin; grandchildren, Tristan and Mia; brother, William (Marilyn) Eakin; sisters, Beatrice (Jerry) Booher, Geraldine Berry; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Robert Shaffer III and sister, Evelyn Smith. 

A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 12 noon at Dueber Global Methodist Church with Jonathan George and Chester Harris officiating.  Visitation will be two hours prior to the service, 10am – 12noon. Gerald will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery.
