George David Swaney
George David Swaney, age 81, of East Canton, died Thursday May 10, 2007 in his home following an extended illness. He was born April 7, 1926 in Meadville, PA, to the late Oscar Brown and Hester (McMichael) Swaney. George was an East Canton resident since 1952 and a WWII Navy veteran. He retired from the Operating Engineers Local # 18 in 1991 and had worked for The Beaver Excavating Company for many years. He was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church; he had served as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop # 36 and as a Special Needs Troop Leader, and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Besse Ingrams. He is survived by his wife, Lillie S. (Hackworth) to whom he was married 59 years; seven children and their spouses, Jane and Spark Patterson, Linda and Warren E. Smith, Launda and Roger Slack all of East Canton, George and Jeanie Swaney of Mapleton, Judy Sterling of Canton, Tom and Brenda Swaney of Meadville, PA, Lori and Randy St. Clair of East Canton; 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter; one sister and brother-in-law, Jean and John George of St. Louis, MO. Funeral services will be Monday May 14, 2007 at 11am in Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard K. Thewlis officiating. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Sunday 2-5pm in the Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton and one hour before services at the church (10-11am).
