George H. Van Pelt
Age 81, of East Sparta died Monday, February 20, 2012 in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born July 18, 1930 in Canton, OH. to the late Alva and Ardina (Seabolt) Boggs. He was an East Sparta resident most of his life and a U.S. Army Korean War veteran where he had been a POW for three years. He retired from Ohio Power, where he was known as "Pappy", in 1990 after 34 years of service. He was a member of Isaac L. Kenny American Legion Post #244 East Sparta, a former 4-H advisor and a founding member of the Tri-County Trail Association. Preceded in death by one daughter, Bridget Kaminsky; numerous brothers and sisters. Survived by his wife and best friend of 30 years, Ellen E. (Mossor) Van Pelt; six children and spouses, Ken and Donna Van Pelt of Pennsylvania, Cindy Gill (Jeff) of East Sparta, Douglas Van Pelt of East Sparta, Susan Scipione of Ft. Myers, FL; Scott and Margie Briggs of East Sparta, Terri and Ed Willard of East Sparta; five grandchildren, Nicole Van Pelt (Ray), Tyler Gill, Kevin Van Pelt, Joseph Briggs, Benjamin Briggs; two great grandchildren, Mattison and Parker Spitza; one brother, Al Van Pelt of Canton; one sister, Tiny Pastore of Youngstown; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 24, 2012 at 10:00 am in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home with Mike Malavite officiating. Interment in Melscheimer Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 5-8 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Tri-Co. Trail Assoc.
