George Stanley Materna
Age 76, passed away peacefully Monday, November 3, 2014. He was born February 22, 1938 to the late Odessa Miller Materna and Carl Materna. Proceeded in death by his beloved wife Joan, son Greg; brothers, Carl, Daniel, Rich, and sister, Alice. He is survived by his daughter Kim (Bill) Chapman of Ft. Myers, FL; brother, Dave (Janice) Materna; sister, Lillian Hattery, and numerous nieces and nephews. George is also survived by his finance Marilyn Hofmeister who took wonderful care of him, her six children, 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1956 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He married Joan Johnson Materna on December 15, 1957. He was formerly employed of Republic Steel and retired from The Timken Company in 1987. George loved music, he would sing with his brothers and family. He enjoyed listening to old time country music, his cars and he was an avid shuffleboard player and achieved pro-status. He and Marilyn would spend their winters in Estero, Florida. Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 6-8pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. Funeral services will be Thursday November 6, 2014 at 10:00am with Pastor Clifford Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Sandyville.
