Fred D. Dayton, age 72, of North Canton, passed away Wednesday April 23, 2008 in Aultman Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 23, 1935 in Sylva, NC, to the late Dewey and Maude (Evans) Dayton. Fred was a 1953 graduate of Canton South High School and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran with the rank of Corporal. Fred was a Canton area resident most of his life, retiring from BP America in 1997 after 26 years of service. He was a member of Church of the Lakes United Methodist Church where he served in the "Harbor Lights" sanctuary choir. He was a member of Cypress Lodge #604 F&A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, Hall of Fame Luncheon Club and was an avid Tribe, Cavs and Buckeye Fan. Fred is survived by his wife, Donna M. (Bergert) to whom he was married 49 years; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Steve Kress of Perry Township; one son, Jim Dayton of Fairlawn, OH; one sister, Dorothy Miller of Canton. Funeral services will be Saturday April 26, 2008 at 11:00am in the Church of the Lakes United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy L. Conley and Rev. L. Mark George officiating. Interment with military honors in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call Friday 5-8pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home and one hour before services at the church on Saturday (10-11). Masonic services will be Friday at 4:45pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society-Hope Lodge (which is a hospitality house for families supporting loved ones battling cancer) at 11432 Mayfield Rd., Cleveland, OH 44106 or the Church of the Lakes at 5944 Fulton Dr. NW, Canton, OH 44718.
