Ernest Marion "Scotty" Scott
Ernest M. Scott beloved husband of Elizabeth "Beth" Scott passed away quietly on August 21, 2004, with his family at his side. A resident of Canton, OH., Ernest was born in Zanesville, OH on November 14,
1926. He is preceded in death by an infant brother, his parents, Herbert Stanley and Blanche (Buker) Scott; one sister, Lillian Kirkendall, granddaughter, Renee Lynn Harig and a nephew Steven Scott. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth "Beth"(Higbee) Scott, four sons and daughters-in-law; Michael and Linda Scott of Bolivar, Robert Scott of Cuyahoga Falls, David and Darlene Scott of N. Lewisburg, OH., Donald and Pam Scott of Canton. Eleven grandchildren and their spouse's; Holly and Ronald St. Hilaire of Spokane, Wa., Nicole and Thomas Rainsberger of Canton, Heather and Greg Finlayson of N. Canton, Kristen and her fiancee', Derrick McMullin, Joshua, Jennifer and Kristopher Scott all of Canton, Charles and Nichole White of N. Lewisburg, Andrew and Amanda White of Raymond, OH., Benjamin White of N. Lewisburg, and Timothy and Abbey White of Marysville, OH. Eleven great grandchildren; Morgan, Hanna, Sydney, Jake, Zachary, Rory, Padrig, Michael, Rachel, Miranda and Ricky. Ernest was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War where he served as a Radioman on four different ships, the last of which was the USS Toucan. He was a faithful member of North Industry United Methodist Church where he served in various capacities and boards. Member of Richvale Grange, Zanesville, OH., William McKinley Lodge #431 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Canton and the Tadmore Temple, Akron. Ernest was a retired member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, serving as Executive Board President and then Business Manager of Local 540, Canton, OH. He served as Fourth District International Representative until his retirement in 1987. A true leader in the labor movement, Ernest served as President of the East Central Ohio Building Trades Council, was a member of the Ohio State Building Trades Council, Tri State Business Managers Association, Canton Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee and was instrumental in the formation of the American Line Builders Apprenticeship Training Program. Ernest was a graduate of the George Meany College of Labor Studies. A civic member of the community; Ernest was a member of the Canton South AARP where he was active in fostering the rights of senior citizens. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00am in the North Industry United Methodist Church with Rev. David Ross officiating. Interment in West Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday (10:00-11:00am). Masonic services will be Tuesday at 6:45pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to North Industry UMC at P.O. Box 40, Canton, OH 44707.
