Emerson R. Werley
Emerson R. Werley, beloved father,
Grandpa and great-grandpa, passed
away on Monday, January 9th and
entered God's promised rest. Emy, age 87, was a long-time resident of East Canton. He was a cherished member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ
in East Canton where he belonged to the Mary and Joseph Sunday School Class. Emy was a 1937 graduate of East Canton High School, being a member of their first basketball team
and a 1939 graduate of National Diesel School in CA. In the community, Emy served on the East Canton council as president, enjoyed being a Troop 36
Scoutmaster and a school bus driver. During World War II, he was a 1st Class Petty Officer in the Navy where he
received the Victory Medal. Emy was in the American Theater, European-African-Middle Eastern, and Asiatic-Pacific Areas. Emy was a Tool and Dye Maker/Machinist working at Republic Steel, Timken Company, Natco, Canton Tool and Stark Ceramics. He was an avid golfer and bowler. He was pleased to have made a hole-in-one twice. Emy is survived by a
daughter, Connie Werley; a son,
Ronald and daughter-in-law, Nancy of NC; a daughter, Beth and son-in-law, Steve Williams of East Canton. His wonderful grandchildren, Ryan and
Sara Williams of East Canton, Steve
and Brian Werley and wife, Elizabeth of NC; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Samantha, and Ryan Werley
of NC. Two sisters, Polly Bole and husband, Dick, Kate Douglas and
husband, Leo; brother, Robert Werley of East Canton; and in-laws Bob and June Shepler of Louisville. His survivors
also include nieces, nephews and their families plus many "special" friends. Emy is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage; his parents Ralph and Mabel Werley. Services will be Friday at 10:30am in St. Paul's United Church of Christ with Rev. Jenna Brown officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call Thursday 7-9 pm in the Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton, and one hour before services at the church (9:30- 10:30 am).
