Ellwood L. "Nubby" Haynam
Age 89, of Canton died Saturday, November 30, 2013 in the Laurels of Canton following an extended illness. Born November 5, 1924 in Minerva, Ohio to the late Earl E. and Mabel Mae (Stonehill) Haynam. He was a 1942 graduate of Minerva High School and a Canton resident since 1967. Nubby retired from Republic Steel in 1990. He attended Jehovah Witness Southeast Congregation. He had played baseball and fast pitch softball for many years and was inducted into the Fast Pitch Hall of Fame in 1999. Nubby formerly worked on steam engines for a number of years and one of his many talents was mimicking the sound of a train whistle with his mouth. He was known as" Boxcar Nubby" with in the country music circuit and was a member of the Joyfull Sounds musical group. Preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and Lee Haynam. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janice L. (VanVoorhis) Haynam; two sons and daughter-in-law, Randy Haynam, Roger and Ernestine Haynam all of Canton; two brothers and sister-in-law, Floyd and Betty Irene Haynam, Edgar Haynam all of Minerva; one sister and brother-in-law, Mae Ella and Frank Boyd of East Rochester; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013 at 10:00 am in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave. with Michael Petros officiating. Interment in Bethlehem Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 pm.
