Edith Esther Cooley
Age 96, of Canton, passed away Tuesday May 29, 2012 in her home. She was born February 1, 1916 in Mt. Vernon, OH to the late Samuel Lloyd and Ethel (Ronk) Hookway. Esther was a life resident of the Canton area and retired from The Timken Company in 1977 after more than 30 years of service. She was formerly employed as a teacher at Prairie College Elementary School. She was a member of Westbrook Park United Methodist Church where she taught both the Bethel and Disciple series, was active with the United Methodist Women and served with the Meals on Wheels program. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Harvey Hookway and one sister, Dorthea Bowman. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Frederick Paul and Margot Cooley of Canton, MI; one daughter and son-in-law, Janyth and John Akers of Canton; four grandchildren, Brett and Leah Cooley of Canton, MI, Jeannette and Scott Paul of San Francisco, CA, John William and Carrie Akers of Pawleys Island, SC, Kathryn and Joe Douglas of Belleair, FL; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sarah Pinkley of Cleveland, Phyllis and Dave Clouse of Grand Rapids, MI; three brothers and sisters-in-law, James Hookway of Massillon, Norman and Betty Hookway of Orlando, FL, Carl and Velma Hookway of Canton; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday June 2, 2012 at 11:00 am in Westbrook Park United Methodist Church at 2521 - 12th St NW, Canton, OH 44708 with Rev. Jonathan Reese officiating.
