Edgar Lowell Guyer
Edgar Lowell Guyer, age 90, of the Canton area, died January 26, 2009 following an extended illness. Ed was a true Christian. He taught Sunday School classes for 60 years. Ed served the East Canton Church of God in many ways, including as a trustee and church treasurer. Ed was born on December 9, 1918 in Columbus, OH. He graduated from West High School in Columbus. Growing up during the depression era with his widowed mother, Ed never owned a baseball glove or luxuries. However, his family was rich spiritually and in other ways. During WWII he served in several locations, including Alaska and Italy. Ed was promoted to sergeant in the artillery, and was in the Army four years. He earned a B.A. degree, graduating first in his class at Anderson University in 1949. Reading was important in Ed's life. His two main areas of intellectual interest were the Bible and astronomy. Ed authored the book, Symmetric Cosmology. He moved to Canton in 1960. Ed worked primarily as a plasterer and with the Internal Revenue Service. He enjoyed watching football, taking long daily walks, and going to the public library. Ed was a modest and kind man of high character, who provided care for his chronically ill wife. He took difficult situations and turned them into something good. His life was the beauty of faithfulness to God, church, and family. On his desk was a plaque that reads: "Only one life, 'twill soon be passed, only what's done for Christ will last." Preceding Ed in death were his wife, Dorothy Hill Guyer; parents, Floyd Guyer and Esther Neff Guyer; three sisters, Helen Guyer, Edna Guyer, and Esther Kline. Surviving Ed are two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Cindy Guyer, Stephen and Julie Guyer; three grandchildren, Danielle Hoy, Aaron Guyer and Philip Guyer; great grandson, Jackson Hoy. Funeral services will be Thursday January 29, 2009 at 7:30pm in the East Canton Church of God with Mark Hunt officiating. Friends may call one hour before services at the church (6:30-7:30pm). A private burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Condolences or fond memories may be shared online at www.sandersfuneralhomes.com.
