Dwight W. Sheffer
Dwight W. Sheffer, age 80, of Canton, died Wednesday May 30, 2007 in Aultman Hospital. He was born in Canton Township, May 31, 1926 to the late Charles and Carrie (Sickafoose) Sheffer. Dwight was a life resident of Canton Township and a graduate of Canton Township High School, Mount Union College, The Ohio State University and the William McKinley School of Law. He was a WWII Army Veteran. He retired from Central Trust Bank, retired as president of Pike Mutual Insurance Company after 47 years of service and served as a Canton Township Trustee for many years. He was a member of First Church of the Resurrection and a charter member of the Canton South Kiwanis. Member of the Ohio Emergency Medical Service Board, Stark County Industrial Development Board, Sponseller Grange, Canton Local Scholarship Foundation, Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, served on the committee instrumental in the expansion of Route 30, and was very active in many other civic committees and organizations. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one infant brother. He is survived by his wife, JoAnne (Dennis) to whom he was married 57 years; three children and their spouses, Linda McDonald of Canton, Brent and Hillary Sheffer of Columbus, Scott and Elizabeth Sheffer of Chicago, IL; two grandchildren, Grahm and Duncan Sheffer; one brother and sister-in-law, Dwain and Patsy Sheffer of North Canton; two nieces and spouse, Lisa and Dan Arnold of North Canton, Susan McDevitt of N. Canton. A private family funeral service will be conducted in the Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton with interment in Union Cemetery, Louisville. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at 525 N. Broad St., Canfield, OH 44406.
