Dwain E. Barrick October 22, 1942 – November 12, 2015
Age 73, born in East Canton Ohio - departed from us on November 12, 2015 after a lengthy battle with leukemia and Hodgkin's Lymphoma - a result of exposure to Agent Orange. He was an active member of both American Legion and the VFW.
Dwain was an 8 year veteran of the United States Air Force serving one year in Vietnam in the “Red Horse” unit during the height of the conflict. He retired from the GSA after 35 years with his final duties as Building Manager at the US Federal Building in Akron with additional oversight for several facilities within Ohio.
Dwain’s passions revolved around Family, Friends and Sports. He was a sports referee for 18 years. Along with Randy Creech they were instrumental in establishing the Lake Youth Basketball program at Lake Elementary in Hartville. He coached several little league baseball teams and spent 10 years playing in Silver League Softball. Dwain and Brenda (wife) enjoyed spending winters in Ft. Myers Florida where they were very active with friends. Dwain was a huge fan of happy hour and bottomless margaritas.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Denny and his father,Carl. He is survived by his mother, Thelma Barrick; his beloved wife, Brenda (Kelley); son, Mike and wife Michelle; daughter, Angie and husband Mitch Hostetler; brother, Dean and wife Sue; brother ,Dale and many nieces and nephews. His passion and great loves were his grandchildren, Madison, Jonah and Jake Hostetler, and his dogs - particularly Bella who is missing him already. A huge thanks to Katie Shick RN, BSN (niece), Morningstar Oncology, Dr. V and the staff at Aultman for their compassionate support and tireless dedication. A private celebration of life will be held in his honor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dwain's name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
