Donald P. Vliet
Age 95, of Canton passed away peacefully Sunday, January 18, 2015 at The Inn at University Village. Born January 24, 1919 in Canton, Ohio to the late Charles S. and Merretta C. (Yost) Vliet. He was a life resident of Canton and a 1937 graduate of Canton McKinley High School. He was drafted in 1941 to the U.S. Army during WWII and served with the 545th Engineer Topgraphic Company Corp. He retired from the Diebold Company in 1981 with 40 years of service. Don was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was always an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing baseball. He loved the outdoors and sharing good times with his family and friends. Preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Sylvia (Plesia) Vliet in 2002; his oldest son, Donald W. Vliet; one sister, Virginia McClain. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Vicki Vliet of Little River, SC., Peter and Dina Vliet of Navarre; three grandchildren, Christopher (Lora) Vliet of Fond du Lac, WI., Mollie Vliet of Hudson, Hope Vliet of Navarre; two great granddaughters, Lillian and Lauren Vliet; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Marian Vliet of Massillon; one sister, June Maclellan of Denver, CO; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan 22, 2015 at 1:30 pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave with Rev. Harry Sebald officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-7 pm.
