Donald E. Lucas
Age 77, of Massillon died Thursday, January 19, 2012 in Affinity Medical Center following a brief illness. Born July 13, 1934 in Somerton, OH. to the late Paul E. and Helen L. (Hayes) Lucas. He was a Massillon/Canton resident most of his life and a 1952 graduate of Canton Lincoln High School. He was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran. Donald was a former Ohio State Highway Patrolman and retired as a deputy sheriff with the San Diego Sheriff's department. Donald along with his wife, Jean, owned Classic Coiffures in North Canton and Lake Cable for 20 years. During that time he also was owner/operator of Apollo Satcom where he was the first to bring the residential satellite dish to Stark County and holds two patents in the industry. Donald had the unique nature of considering all his employees and their families as personal friends. He loved music and was the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist in his own band "The Memphis Sound" for 18 years performing in the Canton, Massillon and surrounding areas. Survived by his wife of 42 years, Jean A. (Gray) Lucas; four sons and daughters-in-law, Lance and Susan Lucas of Massillon, Dane Lucas of Massillon, Shannon Lucas of Canton, Shawne and Kristine Lucas of Canton; five grandchildren; one sister, Sandra Sue Myers of Canton. There will be no public services a private interment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park.
