Donald W. Elder
"Uncle Donnie" age 81, joined his loved ones on the other side Sunday September 19, 2010. He was born on September 9, 1929 the only child to the late Harold and Elta (Schweitzer) Elder. Don was a life resident of East Canton and a graduate of East Canton High School. He retired from the Ford Motor Company where he proudly served for 38 years. Don was a member of Christ Memorial Church in Robertsville and served on the Osnaburg Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was a doting father and grandfather, Don's generous heart made him adored by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Hane) Elder in 1990 to whom he was married 33 years; one daughter, Cathy Melissa Borne in 1983; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and Hattie Hane to whom he was devoted. Left to treasure his memory are his daughter and son-in-law, Francesca and Christopher Indorf; two grandchildren, Elena Catherine and Matthew Christopher Indorf; in-laws, Betty and Tony Condello, Jean and Carl Rinehart, Gary and Kay Hane; cousin, Ray Parks; numerous nieces and nephews; life long friend, Ruth Crawford. A celebration of Don's life will be Thursday September 23, 2010 at 12:00noon in Christ Memorial Church with Rev. Jeffrey Lord and Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Interment in Robertsville Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday 6-8 pm in the Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton and one hour before services at the church (11-12pm). In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canton Garden Center at 1615 Stadium Park Dr NW, Canton, OH 44718. The family would like to thank everyone at Affinity Medical Center for their care, compassion and kindness during this difficult time and a heartfelt thank you to those who assisted at the accident.
