Donald G. Charton
Age 86, formerly of East Canton, passed away Sunday October 9, 2016 in the Canton Regency. He was born September 15, 1930 in Canton to the late William and Margaret (Putnam) Charton. Don was a 1948 graduate of Canton South High School and retired from Schneider Lumber after more than 25 years of service. He had served as Mayor for the Village of East Canton from 1980- 1987. He was a member of Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church, Louisville and was a very active member of the former Martin Luther Lutheran Church. He was a member of the former East Canton Lion’s Club, Gyro Club of Canton, charter member of the East Canton Rotary Club, and former member and past-president of the Foltz Community Center. Don was an avid golfer, bowler and sports enthusiast. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy L. Charton in 2014 to whom he was married 63 years; one brother, Bill Charton. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Major General Daniel Hahn (US Army retired) of Jackson Township, Barbara and Jamie Savarin of Louisville; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Joe) Wakeley, Tom (Stacey) Hahn, Andrew Savarin and Laura (Preston) Black; six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Annabelle, Garrett, Grady, Griffin and Adriana. Funeral services will be Friday October 14, 2016 at 11:00am in Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church with Pastor Frank Gross officiating. A private family burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Friends will be received Thursday 4-7pm in the Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton and one hour before services at the church on Friday (10-11am).
