Clifford F. Toalston
Age 88, of East Canton, passed away Friday March 4, 2011 in Altercare of Louisville. He was born June 16, 1922 in Carroll County to the late Alfred D. and Orah A. (Jolley) Toalston. Cliff was a 1940 graduate of Carrollton High School, a WWII Navy veteran and an East Canton resident since 1946. He retired from Stark Ceramics in 1986 after 41 years and retired with the rank of Major from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary after 30 years. Cliff was a member of the Church of the Savior United Methodist Church where he was active with the Oatmeal Ministry. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop #36 for 60 years, Julliard Lodge #460 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Canton and honored as Citizen of the Year by the East Canton Rotary in 2000. He was a member of the Lowell D. Oberly American Legion Post #667 where he had served as Post Commander and had served as Commander on the County and District level. He volunteered at Massillon State Hospital for 60 years through the American Legion and had served on several State and National American Legion Committees. He was a member of the Greater East Canton Development Association and the Foltz Community Center. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Joan R. (Wallace) Toalston. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ralph Toalston of Greensboro, NC, Paul and Lou Ann Toalston of East Canton; one daughter, Beth Ann Toalston of East Canton; two grandchildren, Eric Toalston of N. Canton, Jennifer and Todd Dunlap of Cadiz, OH; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Cecil and Virginia Toalston of Louisville, Melvin and Frances Toalston of Mooringsport, LA; two sisters, Alice Baker of Louisville and Mabel Hudak of East Canton. Funeral services will be Wednesday March 9, 2011 at 10:00am in the Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton with Rev. Edward M. Fashbaugh II officiating. Interment in Northlawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Greater East Canton Development Association at 224 N.
