Clarence G. Ickes, age 89, of Canton, passed away Thursday February 26, 2009 in the Canton Christian Home following a brief illness. He was born February 22, 1920 in Louisville, OH to the late Walter and Clara (Seefong) Ickes. Clarence was a 1938 graduate of Louisville High School and a WWII Army veteran. He was a resident of the Canton South area most of his life, retiring from Ashland Oil Refinery in 1982 after 38 years of service. He served on the Canton Township Zoning Board for 37 years. He was a faithful member of North Industry Christian Church where he served as a trustee, greeter and helped in various other capacities at the church. Clarence was a great supporter of Canton Local Schools and truly enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, volleyball and all other sport activities. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters, Estella Miller, Mae Bucheit and Ruth Thoma; one brother, Russell Ickes. He is survived by his wife, Betty Eileen (Johnson) to whom he was married 58 years; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and A. Marie Ickes of Louisville; one sister, Maxine Cramer of N. Canton; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many caring friends who will miss this gentle loving man. Funeral services will be Monday March 2, 2009 at 1:00pm in North Industry Christian Church with Steve Kimbrel officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call Sunday 2-5pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home and one hour before services on Monday at the church (12-1pm). In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canton Christian Home at 2550 Cleveland Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44709, North Industry Christian Church at 425 – 45th St SW, Canton, OH 44706 or the charity of your choice.
