Chief Scott McKibben
Age 51, of Canton died Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in Aultman Compassionate Care Center following a brief illness. Born August 9, 1962 in Canton, Ohio to Bernard A. and Betty E. (Healey) McKibben. He was a life resident of Canton and a graduate of Massillon Washington High School. Chief McKibben had been a member of the Canton Township Fire Department for the past 33 years and had served as full time fire chief since 2002. Scott also served as the Canton Township Administrator. He was instrumental in the development of the fire department to its current level of staffing and service. Providing the community with the best service possible was Chief McKibben's "Number One Priority". He was a member of the Stark County Fire Chief's Executive Board, chairman of the Stark County Hazmat Executive Board, chairman and founding member of the Stark County IMAT Team. He had also been formerly employed by Vern Dale's Water Center. He was a member of Springwood Lake Camp Club where he had served on the board. Some of Chief McKibben's hobbies included woodworking, boating and four-wheeling. Preceded in death by his father, Bernard A. McKibben; one brother, Marty McKibben; one sister, Janet Hall; one niece, Bobbie Jo McKibben. He is survived by his wife, Mary; one son, Christopher McKibben; one daughter, Melissa McKibben; he was acting father for, John, Jennifer, Julie and Jamie Fry. Also surviving are several grandchildren; his mother, Betty Heinemann; one brother, Robert McKibben; two sisters, Sandra Sawyers and Vickie Summers; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 24, 2014 at 11:00 am in North Industry Christian Church, 425 45th St. S.W., Canton, OH. 44706, with Jeff Franks officiating. Interment in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm in the North Industry Christian Church, with the Stark County Firefighter's Last Alarm Service at 7:00pm. Additional calling hours will be one hour prior to the service on Monday from 10:00 – 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be made to Canton Township Fire Department to help complete Chief McKibben's vision for a centralized training center.
