Charles R. "Bob" Yekel
Age 80, of North Canton, passed away Saturday January 5, 2013 in his son's home. He was born December 26, 1932 in Uniontown, PA to the late Henry D. and Rosella (Darby) Yekel. Charles was a Canton and Bolivar area resident most of his life. He was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple for more than 50 years where he formerly served as an usher. He retired from U.S. Steel in 1977 after 22 years of service. Charles was a U.S. Navy Korean War Veteran where he served aboard the USS LST 603, was a member of the Royal Order of the "Blue Nose" and received a commendation for extinguishing a fire aboard ship. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Doris E. Yekel in 2008; one grandson and three brothers. He is survived by four children and spouses, Robert and Pam Yekel of N. Canton, David and Nadine Yekel of N. Canton, Cynthia and Tim Locke of Uniontown, Diana and Jeff Johnson of N. Canton; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sharon (Duke) Blair of Cardale, PA; one brother, John Yekel of N. Canton. Funeral services will be Friday January 11, 2013 at 1:00pm in the Canton Baptist Temple. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call Thursday 6-8pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. and one hour before services on Friday at the church (12-1pm). In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Mercy Hospice or the Canton Baptist Temple. Condolences or fond memories may be shared online at www.sandersfuneralhomes.com.
