Charles "Sock" L. Hughes

Charles L. Hughes, age 79, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024. He was born January 2, 1945, in Winding Gulf, West Virginia, to the late Charlie M. and Wilma (Gouge) Hughes. 

Charles attended Canton South High School. He then went on to honorably serve his country in the United States Navy. Charles was employed at Diebold Inc. and retired from Union Metal. He enjoyed fishing, farming and family vacations to Cancun. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Molly Hodge.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Linda Hughes; his children; Sherrie (Keith) Kerns, Charlie (Amy) Hughes, Charlotte (Mike) Froelich; grandchildren, Kara, Cierra, Kya, Karli, Chase and Cody; great grandchildren, Kaysen, Raelynn and Millie; and his sister, Naomi Miller along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Kreighbaum Sanders Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Charles’s funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 11:00 am. at the Gate of Heaven @ Crossview Church located at 1520 Mill Street SW Canton, OH 44706 friends may also call one hour prior to the funeral service (10:00 -11:00 am) at the church. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens with military honors.

Charles' family would like to extend a special thanks to the Cleveland Clinics Neurology team on G20 and to Aultman Hospital for the care they provided him.
