Charles L. Garman
Age 90, of East Canton, passed away Friday June 22, 2018 in his home. He was born September 16, 1927 in Johnstown, PA to the late Arthur and Pearl Garman. Charles was a WWII Army veteran. He retired with the rank of Captain from the Canton City Police Department in 1983 and served as Chief of Police for the Village of East Canton for more than 20 years. Charles was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police McKinley Lodge #2, Lowell D. Oberly American Legion Post #667 and was a life member of the VFW. Charles wintered in Fort Pierce, Fl for many years; he was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Eleanor Garman in 2001; two brothers, Merle and James Garman; one sister, Ruth Potter. He is survived by three sons, Charles A. (Priscilla) Garman of Becket, Mass., Victor A. Garman and William A. Garman both of East Canton; seven grandchildren, Charles A. (Aimee) Garman, Amelia (Eugene) Manning, Victor J. (Jill Scully) Garman, Richard J. (Nikki) Garman, Jennifer (Brad) Picha, William C. Garman and Kristi (Terry) Foss; 12 great-grandchildren and one nephew, Merle (Linda) Garman. Graveside services will be Monday June 25, 2018 at 1:00pm in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Condolences or fond memories may be shared online at www.sandersfuneralhomes.com.
