Bertha Elizabeth (Barnes) Long
age 79, of Canton, passed away January 1, 2013 surrounded by her loved ones at Aultman Compassionate Care Center.
She was born September 6, 1933 to the late John and Anna (Besselman) Barnes. Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her bothers Russell, William, John, and Robert, her sister Margaret (Peggy) McKnight, Son-In-Law Henry Savage, and Daughter-In-Law Karen Long.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Glenn E. Long; her children Ken Long, Denny (Denise) Long, Sharon Ailing, Donald (Tammy) Long, Peggy Savage, and Tina (Chris) Dieringer; sisters, Dorothy Weaver and Joanne (Louis) Ickes. She was also very proud of her 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren (who called her Grandma Great).
Bertha and her husband owned numerous businesses during her lifetime including Long's Furniture and Long's Moving Company. Bertha was a proud 1952 graduate of East Canton High School and loved attending the class reunions. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, reading, and going to the spa for water aerobics. She also had a passion for needlepoint and was very proud of the blankets she made for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Sanders Funeral Home at 218 East Nassau Street in East Canton, Ohio with services following at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Louisville. The family would like to thank the staff at Aultman Compassionate Care Center for the wonderful care they gave to Bertha.
