Bernice was born March 10, 1913 to John and Fay Foltz of East Canton, Ohio. As a child, she was an active member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, where she grew in her faith and shared her musical talents with the congregation. In 1930, at the age of 17, she was married to Calvin Lillie. They welcomed their only child, Christy, in 1934. Calvin and Bernice enjoyed their life together on the farm. They were known in their community for working as a team, and for their love of family. They celebrated 70 years of marriage before Calvin passed away in 2000. Bernice was a lifelong member of St. Paul's UCC and enjoyed playing the piano for Sunday services for 69 years. She was also active with the Friendly Hills Women's Club and the Tuscarawas Valley Steam Association, where she was elected "Queen of the Show". Preceding Bernice in death are her husband, Calvin; brother, Veldine; son-in-law, John Lautzenheiser; great-granddaughter, Jessica. She is survived by her daughter, Christy Lautzenheiser; her children, Terry and Cristine and daughters, Elizabeth and Madigan of Michigan; Faye and Lee Wetherbee and children, Christopher and Sarah of Ashland; Wade and Karen and sons, Tyler and Adam of Canton; sister-in-law, Florence Lillie and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Howard and Gerry Lillie. Also surviving are her adopted Texas son, Dale Lautzenheiser and his children, Ken, Diane, Carol, and Steven and their families. There are numerous nieces and nephews surviving her, but she had a special bond with her niece, Marilyn, who visited often and always brought her cheer. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Paul's United Church of Christ at 306 W. Church St., East Canton, OH 44730. Funeral services will be Monday October 5, 2009 at 11:00am in St. Paul's United Church of Christ with Rev James Painting officiating. Internment in Warstler Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday (today) 3-5pm in the Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton and one hour before services at the church on Monday (10-11am).
