Barbara Witts

Barbara Witts, age 87, of Alliance, formerly of Canton, passed away Sunday January 1, 2023 at Stone Creek Assisted Living in Alliance.

She was born October 6, 1935 in Canton, OH to the late Ralph and Eloyse (Plasket) Hockensmith. Barbara was employed as a cashier with the former Stolls IGA and retired from Aultman Hospital housekeeping as well as other jobs where she always enjoyed interacting with the public.

She was a member of Canton Baptist Temple in Canton. She enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians (not the Guardians), splitting time between Florida and Ohio with her late husband. She also cherished time with her grandchildren, never missing a sporting event or concert if possible.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Witts and former husband Irvin Johnson; brother, Richard Hockensmith; two sisters, Beverly (Hockensmith) Kail and Betty Marie (Hockensmith) Waid.

Barbara is survived by former spouse Bruce Gilbert and their three children and their spouses, Scott and Kathy Gilbert, Susan (Gilbert) Rue and Eugene Rue, and Randy Gilbert;
10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Keighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on Friday, January 6th  from 6-8:00pm and on Saturday, January 7th from 10:00-11:00am at the funeral home.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 7th at Keighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home at 11am.  Barbara will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery.
