BARB J. CUSH

Barbara Jean (Ferren) Cush, age 87, passed away September 15, 2022. She was born April 10, 1935 in New Philadelphia, Ohio,to the late Mary and Richard Ferren.  She was a life resident of the Canton South area, graduating from Canton South High School in 1953.  She is survived by her best friend and husband, Fred Cush.  The high school sweethearts were married 66 years.  She will be missed by the children she loved so much; Joe (LeeAnn) Cush, Chris (Kerrie) Cush, Terri (Dave) Collinsworth, and Tony Cush. The grandchildren were so important in her life; Joe (Mindy) Cush, Michael (Cindy) Cush, Ashley (Ryan) Zaleski, Kristen Collinsworth, Katie (Josh) Lee, and Charlie Cush; step grandsons, Eric, Andrew, and Nicholas Schaffner; the great grandchildren were so special, Emma Sue, Jeffrey, Tylor, Olivia, Leo, Avery, Reagan, and Reese. She is survived by sister, Carol Hanson, brother-in-law, David Schwarm; stepsisters,Shirley Chaney and Marcia (Ted) McGill.  Also survived by sisters- in- laws, Christine Yeary, Mary Lou (Rich) Szink,, Sue (Mike) McGrew, Cathi Oyer, and brother-in- law, Chip (Sandy) Cush and a multitude  of nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sisters, Jacqueline Ferren, Cathy Schwarm; daughter- in- law, Maria Cush; stepmother, Gladys Ferren, mother and father-in-law, Catherine and Charles Cush, brothers- in- law, Michael, Gig, and Eugene (Jeanne) Cush and brother-in-law, Larry Chaney.  Barb retired from Canton Local Schools after 33 years of service.  She started her career at Walker Junior High where her dear principal was Ed Welker.  She continued her career at Canton South in the Guidance Office, became attendance/athletic secretary and retired from the principal’s office after 33 years of service. She was also employed by The Timken Company, The Pro Football of Fame, and in 1940 and 50’s at the Cloverleaf Dairy later to be Jack’s Kwik Shake. She was an avid bowler in her earlier years.  While at Canton South she was class president, cheerleader, homecoming Queen, and a member of the Canton South band, choir and drama departments.  The Class of 1953 was very special to her and the class reunions she helped plan were always very successful.  She loved her Canton South Wildcats, and the students and staff were such a big part of her life.  She hopes that in some way she touched their lives.  She was Treasurer of the Canton South Athletic Booster Club from 1990 to 2014 and was inducted into the Canton South Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014 and inducted into the Canton Local Hall of Distinction in 2021. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022 at 10:00 am in St Anthony/All Saints Catholic Church, 1530 11th St SE, Canton, OH 44707. Friends may call Monday from 5-8 pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave.  Memorial donations can be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church or Canton South Alumni and Friends.
