Arthur Leonard Orkis
Age 91, of North Canton, was born March 13, 1924 in Natrona Heights, PA. and died Monday December 28, 2015 in St. Luke Lutheran Community. Arthur was the oldest of ten children born to the late Zygmunt and Cecelia (Helminiak) Orkis. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Marian Patricia (Kovachik) Orkis; three daughters, Patricia (Russell) Giauque, Beverly Heimann and Pamela Orkis; former son-in-law, David Heimann; four grandchildren, Chad (Christina) Giauque, Amanda (Chris) Goodson, Ryan (Lizz) Heimann and Desirae (Daniel) Lenzer; six great-grandsons; one brother, Ronald (Eileen) Orkis. In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by all of his siblings except for his youngest brother, Ronald. Arthur had the honor of serving in the US Merchant Marine for nearly two years during WWII. He traveled the world throughout his service, having an outstanding experience in his many ports of call. Arthur was the owner of Champ Business Builders, an advertising specialties company, which he actively ran until he was eighty-eight years of age. He developed and enjoyed many long-lasting professional relationships and personal friendships through his business. Arthur asked for a special “Thank You” to Dr. Arnold Rosenblatt for “his dedicated attention to my good health.” Arthur also requested a special “Thank You” to Father Thomas Bishop for “his outstanding example of life.” The family would like to thank St. Luke Lutheran Home for the care provided to Arthur during his two years of residence and also Senior Independence Hospice for their great care, comfort and companionship provided to Arthur. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday December 31, 2015 at 11:00am in St. Anthony/All Saints Parish, Canton with Fr. Thomas Kraszewski as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends will be received Wednesday 4-7pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home and one hour before services on Thursday at the church (10-11am).
