Arthur Donald Kovesci, age 76, of East Sparta, died November 15, 2010 in his home surrounded by his family after an extended illness. He was born February 18, 1934, to Arthur and Gladys (Elseser) Kovesci in Canton, Ohio. Art grew up in the North Industry area and was a member of the North Industry Christian Church. He served as president of the Canton South High School Class of 1952 where Art lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He coached Class A Baseball for Lehmiller Hardware and Hot Stove Class E Baseball for Canton South Men's Club, winning state championships in 1979, 1999, 2001 and 2002. He was inducted into Greater Canton Amateur Sports Hall of Fame for fumble ball, Class of 1999.
Art retired from Brechbuhler Scales after 43 years of service on August 30, 1996. After retirement, much of his time was spent manicuring the Canton South baseball field, working in his yard and golfing with friends. He is preceded in death by his father Arthur; mother, Gladys; stepfather, Dalton Stalder; brother, David; brother-in-law; Vince Presutti. Art is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gwen (Hershey); son Kim (Christine) Kovesci of Clinton, daughter Kathy (Jim) Karcher of Canton, son Tom (Kay) Kovesci of Canton, son Kevin (Suzanna) Kovesci of New York, NY; Grandchildren, Benjamin, Renee, Brian, Tommy, Becky, Andy, and Will; sister, Marilyn Presutti of North Canton; brother, John (Ellen) Stalder of Dover; nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank caregiver Marilyn McCoy for her compassionate care during the last 3 years. They would also like to thank Mercy Hospice for their special care and support through this difficult time. A special thank you to all the friends and family who provided their unwavering support for the past 4 years while dealing with Art's long illness. Funeral services will be Friday November 19, 2010 at 10:00am in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. Interment in Melscheimer Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday 2-4 and 6-8pm.
