Alice Mae Van Voorhis
Age 93, of Canton died Saturday, October 8, 2011 in Allay Senior Care. She was born April 23, 1918 in Howenstine, OH. to the late Harry N. and Nellie G. (Hoverland) Garner. She was a life resident of the Canton South area. Her father was her teacher at Green Ridge, a one-room country school. Alice Mae was a 1936 graduate and valedictorian of Canton Township High School and also a graduate of Canton Actual Business School. She retired from U.S. Ceramic Tile Co. in 1980 after 33 years of service. She was a lifelong member of Asbury United Methodist Church. Alice Mae was an avid walker, took good care of her pet cat and could always spot a misspelled word. Preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Thouvenin. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Denny Moriarty of Canton; brother-in-law, Louis Thouvenin of Canton. She loved being Auntie Mae to her nieces and nephews, Melanie and Keith Betz, Scott, Sherry, Natalie and Abigail Thouvenin. Funeral service will be Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home with Pastor Ruthann Bosley officiating. Interment in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Tuesday from 10-11 am. Memorial donations may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church.
