Shirley J. Van Voorhis

Age 83, of East Canton, passed away Tuesday March 13, 2018 peacefully in her home. She was born March 8, 1935 in Vanceburg, KY to the late Clarence and Otta (Silvey) O’Neil. Shirley was raised in Portsmouth, OH and moved to East Canton in 1951. She was a 1953 graduate of East Canton High School and was employed by the Canton Repository. Shirley married Wendell R. Van Voorhis on May 20, 1956. She attended Indian Run Christian Church where she played the organ for 21 years. She is a member of the Chippewa Indian Tribe of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. In addition to her loving husband of 61 years, she is survived by her children; Vanessa (Joel) Snyder of Paris, Dale (Denise) Van Voorhis of East Canton and Ray (Jill) Van Voorhis of Waynesburg; ten grandchildren, Jennifer (Joe) Bryan, Brad (Rachael) Snyder, Adriane (Jeremy) Schaefer, Paul (Jacoby) Snyder, Kristyn (Lance) Wildman, Brent Van Voorhis, Ryan (Natalie) Van Voorhis, Joshua (Kayla) Van Voorhis, Travis Van Voorhis and Zach Van Voorhis; five great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Jake and Cora Bryan, Adelyn and Hoyt Van Voorhis; two sisters, Marjorie June (Bud) Scott and Norma (Harold) Kimbel; one brother, Paul (Rosie) O’Neil; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday March 16, 2018 at 11:00am in the Sanders Funeral Home, East Canton with her grandson, Paul Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may call Thursday (tonight) 5-8pm in the funeral home and one hour before services on Friday (10-11am).
